No one can say No! Here’s a simple recipe that will impress! It is easy and no fuss. It can be done in a very short time. Roasted eggs make a great appetizer for brunch and parties. They can be prepared ahead of time and be sure to make plenty as they won’t last long. I will share with you the recipe.
INGREDIENTS FOR ROASTED EGGS
15 eggs
3 cups of water
1 cup of wine
1 teaspoon of salt
5-6 tablespoon of dark soy sauce (it depends on which brand you are using)
1 1/2 teaspoon of Chinese five spices
3-4 tablespoon of brown sugar (For additional sweetness, you can add one more tablespoon. But it depends on your preference)
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Cook eggs in boiling water for 15 minutes and transfer them in cold water before removing the egg shell.
2. In a pot add water, red wine, salt, dark soy sauce, Chinese five spices and brown sugar. Mix everything until well-combined.
3. Bring mixture to boil and then reduce heat to low. Add the eggs and let cook for 40 minutes or until mixture evaporates. Be careful not to burn the eggs! Don’t let the liquid dry completely. (Tips: Stir occasionally every 10-15 minutes to get a beautiful coating). You will notice that the eggs will turn darker and darker.
This is how the roasted eggs should look after 40minutes! I did not let the sauce evaporate completely. The remaining sauce can be used as a dipping sauce. Why not! Besides, if you let the sauce evaporate completely, you will end up with burnt eggs! This is not what you want! Right?😊
4. At the end, remove pot from heat and drizzle eggs with 3-4 tbsp of cooking oil. How do you find the end result? Isn’t it amazing? It’s so easy to make. Tomorrow I will make some Bao buns and I will use these “Gems' ' as fillings together with chicken chasiew (chinese barbecue chicken). I have put the roasted eggs in a glass container together with the remaining sauce. This will prevent the eggs from drying out. The eggs are best eaten the next day. You can keep it covered in the refrigerator. Enjoy!🥰
